MES can assess degradation when CSIA data is not available. An MNA evaluation should start with decreasing concentrations.

To ensure that the observed attenuation is degradation, we assess:

​

• Increasing concentrations of end products

• Presence of intermediates

• Redox conditions conducive to remediation

• Fermentable organic carbon capable of sustaining biodegradation (for reductive)

• Continual supply of oxygen or nitrate (for oxidative)

MNA reports can be a great way to document biodegradation after the analytical budget has been exhausted by a plethora of VOC, end product and redox analyses.
